Meet The Faces of Beyond

Meet The Faces of Beyond 2021

Meet The Faces of Beyond 2021

Beyond/bɪˈjɒnd/noun - 'something that lies outside the scope of ordinary experience'.

If there's a word that summarises what pushes riders to seek the boundaries of what is deemed possible on a bike, then it's 'beyond'. Starting in 2019, HUNT Beyond was established to focus on providing a platform for the aforementioned riders who don’t quite fit into the proverbial box.

Headed up by HUNT Beyond Brand Manager (and winner of GBDURO and the TransContinental Race), Josh Ibbett, we are humbled to introduce the wide range of riders who will fly the Beyond flag globally and give us their real world feedback, to help develop wheels that perform in the most remote corners of the globe. So without further ado, here they are...

Sofiane Sehili

Sofiane hit the ground rolling in 2021 with a big win at The Transpyrénées, straight off the back of a 7-month riding hiatus, after breaking his knee. This was followed by an incredible win at the famed Silk Road Mountain Race.

Eleonora Balbi

In 2021, Eleonora will be setting off around Europe in her camper van with no plans apart from to find some adventure. We can’t wait to see what Elenora gets up to and are very pleased to make sure she is rolling on some sweet wheels on her cycling adventures.

Josh Ibbett, Hunt Beyond Rider

Josh Ibbett

Fabian Burri

Josh doesn't need much of an intro, he has been part of Hunt from the very beginning, both as a rider and employee. He has won the Transcontinental Race, Italy Divide and GBDuro on HUNT wheels, as well as completing multiple long bikepacking trips, such as Further East and most recently the Cairngorms Loop with Rich Rothwell.

Josh keeps the Beyond riders in check, making sure they have the best wheels possible for their adventures.

If you've ever taken part in an Ultra-Endurance race it's likely you've met Fabian.

He tends to pack races into his calendar each year, normally racing at least one a month and always completing the event. When he puts his mind to it you can find him right up at the pointy end.

Fabian is the ever smiling face on these gruelling events and will always stop for a chat and to see how things are going.

Emma Pooley

Steve Bate MBE

Emma Pooley is a former World Time Trial Champion and Olympic medallist, this competitive mentality saw that Emma took gold in the inaugural Further Pyrenees, which was her first race, she also previously held the women's Everesting record.

For 2021, Emma is venturing further into the world of off-road riding by taking part in the Hope1000 mountain bike race across Switzerland.

Steve has an impressive array of sporting achievements including solo climbing El Capitain in the Yosemite National Part and winning a Gold medal at the Rio Paralympic games.

Steve has a degenerative visual impairment which makes his sporting achievements even more impressive and we are very proud to support Steve with his adventures in 2021.

Angus Young

Claire Frecknall

Angus set a new FKT on the 3 Peaks by Bike, with a staggering 32hrs 10mins, beating the previous record by 5hrs 23mins.

It's safe to say he's pretty handy on a bike and loves to give it everything in any race he enters, so keep an eye out for more big things coming from him. When not on his bike Angus somehow finds the time to be a secondary school teacher.

Claire is a returning member of the Hunt Beyond Team in 2021.

When not working at The Rider Firm, Claire can be found out on her bike on the South Downs Way exploring the rugged landscape and planning her next excursion. She's had a busy year riding on home soil, packing in a few local favourites such as SSX Mystery Tour, PubDuro NYM, Further East and Grinduro.

Iman Kagumba

Andy Cox

Iman lives in Kenya and loves to race. We are incredibly proud to support her with Hunt wheels and help her reach her potential. On top of all of her riding and racing, Iman also does fantastic work in her local community, encouraging other women to start riding.

Iman rode the Gravel Migration in 2021 with long term Hunt friend Ryan LeGarrec.

Andy is an exciting new addition to the Hunt Beyond riders. Andy spends each summer travelling across Europe on his bike, at his own pace, the result of this is the creation of the European Divide Trail, a 4000 mile route from Norway to Portugal.

Andy will begin is wanderings again this spring with the aim of creating an East to West off road trail across Europe, we can’t wait to see the result!

Jenny Tough

Fede Cabrera

Jenny just loves to be out in the mountains whether it’s on foot or on her bike, she was the fastest female rider at the 2020 Atlas Mountain Race and she naturally gravitates towards the harder events on the bike packing calendar, such as the Silk Road Mountain Race.

Jenny's an all round athlete and her running goals include running across a mountain range, on each continent, ticking off a mountain range each year.

Fede lives in Argentina and spends many months each year traveling South America by bicycle.

Fede runs a project called ‘Their Only Portrait’ where he donates solar lamps and take photographs for families in remote mountain villages in South America.

Itching to get back on the road in 2021, after 8 months being isolated in Buenos Aires, Fede has some big plans and we can’t wait to see his incredible images from his next adventure.

Jason Kiefer

Nathalie Baillon

Jason is the newest member to the HUNT Beyond Team. Jason’s most recent achievements include a 2nd place finish, behind Josh Tostado at the Colorado Endurance Series event, SBFL and also an amazing effort on the Colorado Trail Race finishing 9th.

Jason lives in Leadville, Colorado (2 miles above sea level) with his wife and new baby and juggles family life, a full time job and training on his bike. We look forward to big things from “Kiefer” as he’s more motivated than ever to compete in big events.

Nathalie is another new addition to the Hunt Beyond line up. She lives in the foothills of the French Alpes and has been riding for over 15 years.

She was drawn to the idea of lightweight bikepacking whilst touring the length of New Zealand, having crossed paths with a bunch of riders tackling the Tour Aotearoa and was instantly hooked.

Since then Nathalie has won Bikingman Corsica and more recently the BHard Ultra Race, which she wrote about in our journal here.

Gail Brown

Rich Rothwell

New to Hunt Beyond for this year is Gail Brown. Gail is a multi-discipline cyclist, physiotherapist and active-travel addict. No stranger to the world of bikepacking she finished the TransContinental Race and GBduro (which she wrote an insightful journal post on).

Gail manages to smile regardless of how tough things are and will be a great addition to the team. In 2021 Gail will focus on the Silk Road Mountain Race and the Atlas Mountain Race.

Rich loves a tough ride, give him remoteness, bad weather and rough terrain and he will be happy.

Rich has tackled some of the toughest bikepacking routes including the Highland Trail 550 and the Colorado Trail Race, as well as winning multiple solo 24hour Mtb races.

As well as a racer Rich is a top coach with Transition Coaching specializing in helping riders reach their potential in endurance events. Rich tackled the Highland 550 trail with Josh Ibbett this year, as well as featuring heavily in the GCN video for Further East.

Joachim Rosenlund

Axel Carion

Joachim found cycling as way to rehabilitate after a number of skateboard induced hip fractures and before he knew it was bitten by the cycling bug.

Taking every chance he can get, Joachim thrives on setting out on two wheels to explore beautiful and expansive routes, mixing overnighters with long distance rides.

Always looking ahead, Joachim's dairy will be packed full of ideas for the coming year and we are looking forward to seeing where he ends up.

Axel is the brains behind the Bikingman Series of ultra-events, which is becoming more and more popular every year. Outside of the events Axel loves to head out into the wilderness on long expeditions, having travelled extensively through South America, including riding the length of the continent.

We're thrilled to be supporting Axel in 2021 and we're sure he will be putting our Dynamo wheels to good use.
