Angus Young Wins the Dales Divide With a New FKT

The Dales Divide is the season opener in the British ultra cycling calendar, run on its traditional date of the Easter Bank holiday weekend. The 370 mile event starts on the pier in the town of Arnside, nestled in Morecambe Bay on the UK’s West coast, before heading East crossing the Yorkshire Dales, passing through York and reaching the East coast at Scarborough, before riding back across the country to finish once more at Arnside Pier.
HUNT Beyond rider Angus Young is no stranger to the event, having previously won and set the FKT. However, after his record time was beaten in 2024, he was back to retake the crown. After a dry spring, the ground conditions were fast rolling and favourable weather conditions meant that a tilt at retaking the FKT was on the cards.
Angus took control early on in the race and was the first to reach Scarborough at the half way mark.
“What a race it was, a strong headwind for the first 300km was draining and I entered the night feeling a little low having gone out a little hard. By the time the sun came up my legs had come back around and now that wind was our friend”
Despite a strong chase pack, he continued to extend his lead on the return leg and reached the finish in Arnside in first place with a new FKT time of 33 hours 47 minutes.
Congratulations to Angus for a stunning ride, keep an eye out for more of his adventures later this year.
