Hunt Beyond:
Gail Brown

Gail with her bike at the US/Mexico border

Name: Gail Brown

Hometown: Bristol, UK

Which bikes and HUNT wheels do you ride? Scott Scale hardtail with Proven Carbon Race XC 29", for ultra races I'll use a custom dynamo wheel. For road/gravel I use a Specialized Roubaix with 4 Season All Road Disc wheels. I also have an old, super light rim brake Felt bike with an awesome set of Aerodynamicist wheels - which this year I actually intend to use!

Favourite riding experience to date? That's a very hard question! I've had some incredible, life changing rides. I think each and every ultra race finish has been epic, my brain is in another dimension and often I've a strange feeling that the universe is with me. If I could pick one to relive it would be the GBDuro finish, the sunset colliding with the heavy sea mist creating a beautiful pink otherworld. I had so many amazing moments on that ride.

What are your plans for 2024? Some UK based events like Dales Divide and the Gravel Rally. Then trying something new - the plan is to ride El Piri in the Pyrenees as a pair with my partner, Ollie. It's the first time he's done a bike ultra...could be interesting.

What does riding or Ultra racing meant to you? Riding means freedom. It gives me a sense of aliveness and connection. Ultra is those things but intensified.

Favourite ride snack: Not easily found but dried kiwi was my absolute favourite snack on Tour Divide, followed closely by mini cinnamon rolls. Plus Cheetos for a bit of salt.

Soundtrack to your ride: It's always eclectic. From classical or show tunes to drum and bass and rock...I love variety. Recently I've been enjoying the Floyd Wonder artist radio. It's great if you need a bit of a pep talk.
