Isla Short's Sub-10kg Yeti ASR - The Lightest Bike on the World Cup Circuit?

Isla Short’s Yeti ASR full-suspension cross-country race bike is turning heads on the World Cup circuit — not just for its performance, but for its astonishing weight. Unofficially, it’s the lightest XC bike on the circuit, tipping the scales at just 9.96kg (21.98lbs).

To achieve this featherweight build, Isla and her mechanic collaborated closely with her sponsors, carefully selecting every component to optimise for weight without sacrificing performance or durability.

One of the biggest contributors to this weight reduction is the HUNT Proven Carbon Race XC UD wheelset — a cutting-edge set of 29" wheels with a wide 30mm internal rim width, weighing in at just 1254g per pair.

This wheelset doesn’t just cut grams; it elevates performance.

Crafted with XC-specific carbon rims reinforced in critical areas, the HUNT Proven Carbon Race XC UD wheelset achieves an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio. It goes a step further by incorporating ultralight UD carbon spokes, reducing rotational mass. This translates to a bike that accelerates faster off the line, climbs more efficiently, and allows later braking on descents for greater speed and control.

The bike’s impressive weight was discovered by Nick Bentley of Pinkbike during the Leogang World Cup, where he weighed every bike in the pits. Isla’s Yeti ASR was the only one that came in under 10kg.

“The only bike we weighed under 10kg.”
