Once you’ve taken in the expanse of water at the reservoir, you gradually head back up to the Tissington Trail for some smooth rolling gravel. This section is gradually climbing but nothing too severe, especially compared to the earlier climb!
Where the Tissington Trail meets High Peak Trail, you then have a choice to either head further up the High Peak Trail for a quick stop at The Royal Oak or you can head straight back down to the High Peak Junction. For me, I love a quick stop mid-ride to refresh and make the most of my day out.
Another bonus of this route is once you’ve reached the pub it’s all downhill back to your starting point. It’s a really rewarding way to end the ride as even on tired legs you’ll find yourself rolling back in no time.
One of the best parts of this route is that you can tweak it to suit your needs on any particular day. If you’re after extra distance, then you can start this route on the Cromford Canal in Ambergate, or if you’re looking for less climbing, then you can start at the High Peak Junction car park which skips the steep mile long climb to the top.
