The Purpose _

The Purpose _

These wheels are so aero, that we're free-wheeling in the pack whilst the others are pedalling. Going deep is obvious for aerodynamic performance. Add wide rims with a U-profile, and you get the addition of great handling and reduced drag across a wide range of yaw angles. Despite being a massive 27mm wide and 50mm deep, the rims are extremely light at only 498g each.

The freehub body on the HUNT Sprint hubs used for the 50CWA is also upgraded with 48 teeth on the ratchet ring and multi-point pawls, providing super-fast 7.5 degree engagement for when the hammer goes down and you need to accelerate now! The strong individual leaf spring pawls are louder than circular spring set-ups but we think that is the right decision to make for this type of wheelset. Also, stiffness = Speed so we specced large 15mm diameter hub axles for sprinting and out-of-saddle climbing. Ease into them, your mates won’t know it’s the wheels!

Toray T700/T800 unidirectional and 3K weave carbon-fibre with 3K weave bed and spoke areas. 27mm outer and 19mm inner width. 50mm deep super wide rounded aero section Hooked Griptec basalt ceramic fibre brake-track. Please note: We are not able to control other brands brake pad compounds and we cannot test every possible brake pad so please use only our HUNT Brakco Griptec carbon specific rim brake pads with these wheels. We chose the Brakco Griptec pads because they outperform a lot of the market leaders’ best selling compounds in both dry and wet laboratory conditions. HIGH SPECIFICATION COMPONENTS _

Rims

A strong and seriously wide yet lightweight carbon rim, with an aero-rounded profile for excellent handling and speed. The extra friction Griptec brake-track provides excellent braking, on even the longest descents and in the wet. The rim dimensions are wide at 27mm (19mm internal) which creates a great tyre profile, resulting in excellent grip and lower rolling resistance. High TG resin provides extremely reliable braking and durability for longer descents. We lab test all our rims to very high braking temp (200 C) to push their limits. The high temp resins used for our Griptec Braking surfaces and rims are designed and perform to extremely high levels of braking heat build-up. We also ride test our rim brake wheels in the Alps to ensure the wheels are put through their paces on long, steep and fast descents.

Rim bed

H-Lock is our tubeless-ready rim bed profile with up-kicks to the shoulders of the tubeless steps which help to create a great rim-well seal for first installation and easy sealing of tubeless tyres. The H-Lock profile also locks the beads in place more securely once seated. This is especially important when running lower pressures or riding off-road.

Hubs

Precision machined straight pull hubs and spokes add strength and enhance power transfer meaning all your force pushes you forwards. Large 15mm diameter hub axles for sprinting and out-of-saddle climbing responsiveness. Circular dropout interface steps add extra stiffness.

Bearings

The heart of any wheel. Investing in them makes huge sense. We use high-grade precision sealed cartridge bearings with proprietary waterproof grease specially selected for even the worst weather.

Spokes

We chose the top-of-the-range Pillar Spoke Re-enforcement PSR XTRA models. These butted blade aero spokes are lighter and provide a greater degree of elasticity to maintain tensions longer and add fatigue resistance. PSR spokes feature the 2.2 width at the head providing more material in this high stress area. Nipples are 14mm alloy, anodized and come with a hex head so you can achieve precise tensioning. Combining components well is key which is why all Hunt wheels are hand-built.

Tyres

At HUNT, we enjoy the puncture resistance and grip benefits of tubeless on our every-day rides so we wanted to allow our customers the same option. Of course, all of our tubeless-ready wheels are designed to work perfectly with clincher tyres and inner tubes too.

Stated wheel weights: Our stated wheel weights reflect the wheelset only; without rim tape, tubeless valves or disc brake lock rings, as is industry standard. A 3% variance (lower or higher) in total system weight is normal for wheelset manufacturing.

All HUNT wheels models have to pass our harsh cobbled-rolling-road tests for rider weight limits, please see here for more details. Max system weight 125 kg (system weight – total weight of fully kitted up rider, bike and luggage). If the system is over 105 kgs then an experienced bike mechanic should check the wheel regularly.
