The Purpose _

The Proven XC Dynamo wheelset was developed in collaboration with HUNT Beyond athletes seeking a lightweight carbon MTB wheelset with Dynamo charging and lighting capabilities to tackle the world’s toughest off-road ultra races. Utilising our Proven Race XC MTB rim with a 30mm internal width for maximum tyre volume and ride tuned front and rear-specific carbon fibre layup to maximize comfort and traction up front, and power transfer in the rear.  Our engineering and development team has included an extra layer of carbon in the rim to reinforce the spoke holes.

Hand-built with 28 J-bend spokes and durable, corrosion-resistant, self-lubricating brass nipples to ensure strength and reliability.

During the validation process, this wheelset was raced by Justinas Leveika to set the Fastest Known Time and take victory in the Tour Divide, and by Cynthia Carson to win the Atlas Mountain race.

Dynamo Front Hub

Designed for smooth reliability and longevity, SON hub dynamos have been an undisputed benchmark for many years. The generator is precisely adapted to the intended use and efficiently powers headlights, rear lights or charges devices and power banks while riding, even at low speed.

Hookless Carbon Rim

Built with a hookless, straight-sidewall design and a precision-engineered carbon construction, each of our tailored rims are reinforced with an additional 3k carbon weave for enhanced durability.

90T S_RapidEngage Freehub

The S_RapidEngage freehub boasts our fastest MTB engagement angle freehub to date. This race-ready 3x2 pawl system is mated to our new 90t ratchet ring with 6 durable pawls transferring power in an alternating pattern creating an almost instant 2-degree engagement for improved responsiveness and pedal input, crucial for technical climbing under load.

A custom layup and manufacturing process prioritising strength and low weight, strategically removing material where it’s not necessary while ensuring high-stress areas are fully reinforced with an additional 3k carbon weave for added reliability.

Tuned Rims

We’ve developed a custom layup and manufacturing process that prioritizes low weight, strategically removing material where it’s not necessary while ensuring high-stress areas are fully reinforced for unmatched reliability. Each rim is fine-tuned for its specific purpose. The front is engineered for comfort, absorbing vibrations and smoothing out the ride, allowing you to tackle long stretches with ease. The rear rim is crafted for strength by having extra carbon layers added, providing the support and power transfer you need for rapid acceleration and confident climbs.

Hookless/Straight Sidewall Design

Featuring a hookless/straight-sidewall with tailored carbon construction with 3k carbon weave reinforcement. Both front and rear rims feature tuned profiles with a future-proof 30mm internal rim width.

Son Dynamo Front Hub

SON 28. 3 watt / 6 volt output at 16kmh tested to German standard K687 for output requirement. Sealed with alloy dust shields, rubber lip seals and a pressure compensation system to prolong bearing life by reducing water ingress to the hub system. Backed by a 5 year warranty to keep you rolling.

Freehub

Designed for long distance durability and quick engagement while tackling technical climbs with a loaded bike. 6 multi-point pawls engage with the oversized 90-tooth ratchet ring to disperse the load while offering a near-instant 2-degree engagement angle. A CNC-machine 6-bolt disc brake mounting interface offers versatility for your most-remote adventures.

Spokes

We use 28 high-quality Sandvik stainless steel J-bend spokes in the building of our Proven XC Dynamo wheelset and lace them in a robust 3-cross pattern to maximise strength without adding unnecessary weight. Cold drawn and triple-butted (2.0-1.6-2.0), crafted from high-grade T302 stainless steel by Sandvik Sweden. This ensures a perfect balance of strength, weight savings, and comfort where it's needed.

Nipples

We’ve chosen brass nipples for our wheel build because they offer unmatched longevity and durability, essential qualities for long-distance athletes. Brass nipples are highly resistant to corrosion and wear, ensuring they withstand the rigors of extended rides and diverse conditions.

Bearings

Double sealed stainless steel cartridge bearings offer smooth, reliable service with low friction. Proven XC Dynamo wheels are engineered to be used all year round, rain or shine, and so we've ensured both front and rear hubs are running on ultra-smooth, weather-resistant dual-contact lip- sealed bearings. The front SON dynamo hub benefits from energy-efficient SKF 626-2RSH deep groove ball bearings, while the rear hub utilizes ultra-low friction, double-sealed bearings for effortless rolling on any terrain.

Stated wheel weights: Our stated wheel weights reflect the wheelset only; without rim tape, tubeless valves or disc brake lock rings, as is industry standard. A 3% variance (lower or higher) in total system weight is normal for wheelset manufacturing.

All HUNT wheels models have to pass our harsh rolling-drum fatigue tests for rider weight limits, please see here for more details. Max system weight 145 kg (system weight – total weight of fully kitted up rider, bike and luggage). If the system is over 135 kg then an experienced bike mechanic should check the wheel regularly.
